Co-operative Learning -- a new educational methodology for JNVs
Co-operative learning is commonly understood as a method of learning in group through interaction and under the guidance of the teacher’. It is synonymous with ‘collaborative learning’ which takes place whenever the students either in pairs or in groups share knowledge and experience through continuous interaction. The students are constituted into heterogeneous Group to work together on an assigned project within a time bound duration. The activities assigned to the students all aim at a common goal.
Cooperative learning is undoubtedly by a very successful methodology is the modern scenario of teaching learning. Students of varying learning abilities are clubbed together for a well planned poject involving varieties of learning activities like discussion, debate, Group Discussion, data collection, survey, field study analysis, preparation of record and presentation of project. All these only enhances their understanding and application level. This, Co-operative learning can also be connoted as ‘learn and let Learn’ policy. It is a flexible and powerful instructional strategy which can harvest not only heavy academic result but also paves the way of personality development. Overuse of co-operative learning may lead to academic hazards- one must be aware of it.
Goals
Co-operative learning upgrades personal relationship & psychological health of the learner. It enhances achievement and productivity of the group. The group inculcate caring, supportive, committed attitude in them. It also develop Social competence and self esteem of a learner. Inter dependence, accountability- both individual & group skills like decision making, trust buiding, communication, conflict management, etc. are also other elements of co-operative learning.
Why not this co-operative learning – be adopted as a regular method of teaching in Navodaya Vidyalaya where we have skilled staff, good library and Laboratory, ICT equipment and before all bright children ?

If it is adopted systemically and consistently in JNVs, it will go a long way in smoothing our path for achievement organized goal.

Co-operative learning in JNV
- To be adopted at the early age i.e. Class VI to develop it into and established habit of learning.
- At least 10% of the syllabus content (some selected topics) may be chosen for co-operative learning with the entire syllabus can not be planned.
- Insure better use of ICT in JNV.
- Teacher to remain upgraded in course information.
- Self confidence in students will grow like anything.
- Teaching-learning process will be effective and interesting.
- Inquisitive creativity (enquiring mind), creativity and research- oriented mind set will automatically develop.
- Excellent academic result and all-round personality development in the students.
- Commendable communication skill in the learner.
- Blooming of a good citizen with sharing, caring and fairing (society & nation) mentality.
