WHY ARE STUDENTS NOT GETTING EDUCATED?
Much of lip-services have gone to define an ‘educated person’. Thinkers and theorist, philosophers and educationalist have defined ‘an educated person’ in their own ways emphasizing one or other aspect of ‘education’. The central fact remains that an educated person means- ‘a successful learner’, a confident individual’ and ‘a responsible citizen’. The present system of education helps the student to develop into ‘neither of the three’ in full extent.
The reasons of failure are many. Two much focus on ‘scoring high mark’ followed by lack of value education’ Nuclear family system, absence of family bond Grand parents stories, Mothers lorry, father’s constant motivation, brothers attachment etc- are helping the ‘students develop in to an individual dried of all human feelings. Materialistic outlook of life, competition for crazing more money, overuse of computer & mobile etc have driven the students to a domain of ‘complete aliniation’ without any ‘man-to-man contact’ or ‘verbal social attitudes’. The students come up as ‘a mere machine’- ‘A composition of gadgetries rather than a human being tempered with feelings and emotions.’ Media here only multiplied ‘bestiality’ in the ‘being’ of a student.
The present system of education is still ‘imparting knowledge’ but ‘ no construction of knowledge by self. ‘Commissions are set one after another, theories and document are drafted again and again reforms in exam are effected endlessly, but all these have resulted in ‘poor employability’ in students and ‘ mismatched social usability.’ Thus, such s system should be evolved which must address ‘the immediate social need’ and ‘future development prospect’ both in the society & nation. Education, at the higher level should be purely ‘research oriented’ to be linked to the changing needs of the society from time to time. A students in the present scenario is placed on the surface of a vast ocean of information, unable to measure the fathomless depth of knowledge, craving for more and more ‘unable to digest’ and implement the ‘learned knowledge’ in his/her ‘social spheres.’
As said earlier, the training of 3 Hs : head, hand and heart- is complete education. In today’s context head it partially trained, hand still less & heart is totally ignored. The result of this ????
A student neither becomes ‘ a successful learner’ in to to, nor ‘a confident individual’ not even ‘a good social being’. Instead a student grows like a stressed competitor filled with enormous sense of enmity for others.
=) a confused individual at a social juncture unable to find a right path for him
=) degraded a morally bankrupt person indifferent to his society and nation.
CONCLUSION (How students will get educated)
A drastic change is needed in evaluation pattern. Physical Test, Social Adjustability. Test are to be included in the final grading of learners. Yoga and Exercise should be made compulsory and be introduced to the evaluation pattern. Mass participation of students in different CCA activities should be also compulsory and be incorporated to the evaluation. Co-curicular activities like NCC, NSS, Scout, Guide, club activities should be seriously viewed with due weightage in the exam system ; rather than ‘a leisurely activity’ to upgrade one’s scoring. If due weightage is given to these co-curricular activities and if these are meaningfully linked to the system of competitive exam’ every learner will definitely like to take part, involve and aspire for a career. Education can bring a sea-change by ensuring academic, physical, social and emotional development in the students through a comprehensive course content, serious CCA activities & mass participation of all properly linked to the pattern of evaluation.
